Posted on 12/23/2021 by Kian Djawdan DMD
Not So Common Signs of Oral CancerCancer is defined as the uncontrollable growth of cells that invades and causes damage to surrounding tissues. In most cases, oral cancer appears as a growth or sore in your mouth that doesn't disappear. There are different types of oral cancer that include cancers of the tongue, lips, cheeks, mouth floor, soft and hard palate, pharynx, and sinuses. If not treated early, oral cancer can be life-threatening. There are many signs of oral cancer, some of them not so common.

Signs of Oral Cancer

Many signs can show that you are suffering from oral cancer. If you notice swellings, lumps, rough spots, eroded parts of your gums, or lips on the lips, you could be having oral cancer. This is not a very common sign, and it will need close examination to identify. Furthermore, if you notice the development of white or red patches in your mouth, it could be the early stages of oral cancer. Therefore, it is important to come to our offices at the early stages to avoid further damage.

If you have unexplained numbness, tenderness, loss of touch in any area of your neck, mouth, or face, you need to come in for checks immediately. Oral cancer tends to affect the skin texture, creating tenderness in some parts of the face or mouth. Unexplained bleeding could also be a sign of oral cancer. The condition affects the gum sockets, leading to easy bleeding.

Oral cancer can also cause difficulties in speaking, swallowing, or chewing. You will also find it painful to move your tongue or jaw. Furthermore, you could notice chronic sore throat, hoarseness, or sudden changes in your voice. Some patients also experience ear pain. If you notice any of these symptoms, come in for checks immediately. For more information on the signs of oral cancer, contact our offices.
