Dental Fear and Embarrassment
You are not alone!
Posted on 1/21/2021 by Kian Djawdan DMD
Patients share with us the cause of their dental fear and anxiety started with a dentist giving them multiple injections and insisting that they must be numb, but they weren't. The experience left them feeling embarrassed and terrified of the dentist.

Why do some patients have trouble getting and or staying numb?

-In 2005, researchers found that redheads are more resistant to the effects of local anesthesia, such as numbing drugs used by most dentists. This mutation in the MC1R gene also occurs in brunettes but is less common.

-Having a tooth that is badly infected can cause local anesthesia and numbing agents to be less effective.

-Hormones, particularly stress hormones can cause your metabolism to process the numbing agents from your system quicker making them infective.

If you can identify with this kind of experience, you are not alone, and we can help you with IV sedation dentistry.

What about oral sedation with a pill?

Oral sedation is less predictable and less effective than IV sedation. The pill's effectiveness depends on how your body metabolizes the oral medication and cannot be titrated or re-administered to keep you comfortable through out treatment. IV sedation is very safe and effective in treating patients who have difficulty getting numb. With IV sedation, we can re-administer as needed and use pain relieving medications, too.

We have devoted our practice to helping adult patients with complex dental problems. Our unique dental practice allows the opportunity for adult patients with complex dental problems to have all their treatment completed in one office under IV sedation. Dr. Djawdan is Board Certified by the American Board of Implantology/Implant Dentistry and is considered an expert in dental implants. Dr. Djawdan is also specially trained and licensed to administer IV sedation for dental surgery and restorative dental procedures. He is among a small group of dentists with the advanced training, experience, and credentials to personally handle both the surgical and restorative aspects of treatment. Patients can relax knowing that all their treatment can be completed with the comfort of IV sedation dentistry in as little visits as possible.

We offer IV sedation for any dental procedure for a flat rate of $500 per visit.

We understand the fear and embarrassment associated with going to the dentist. We are here to help, not lecture or judge. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to help people restore hope and confidence. Please feel free to call or text us at 410-266-7645 with any questions you might have.
