 There are a number of different specific X-rays available when it comes to localizing and zoning in on one particular area of the mouth, as well as a larger overall region. There are also different angles that can be taken to better provide clear and precise imaging. Although oral cancer will show up on most scans it is still important to make sure that everything that can be done for early detection is also practiced. But these are not only beneficial in detecting cancer, they are also vital in containing it and keeping it from spreading to other areas of the body, including the neck, skull, brain, throat, or chest. How X-Rays Can Help Prevent SpreadSince X-rays are so versatile in getting a literal inside look at the problem, once it has been determined that you are dealing with some type of oral cancer, regular scans can then be taken throughout the treatment process to make sure that it isn't moving or migrating to other close-by parts of the body. As we mentioned briefly it is not uncommon for a cancer of the mouth to move down into the throat and chest or back and up into the neck or even in rare cases, the brain.
