Veneers

Those movie stars and television stars have beautiful smiles. All those white, perfectly shaped teeth make those smiles amazing. Did you know that you can get the same perfectly-formed, perfectly-white smiles even if you’re not in Hollywood? You can, through the use of veneers. If you have never heard of veneers, and how they can make your teeth look the way you want, keep reading. Let Djawdan Center for Implant and Restorative Dentistry tell you about the use of veneers.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are shells made of porcelain that are placed over your natural teeth. While other products can cover one tooth or several teeth, veneers cover either the upper or lower teeth- or both. Most veneers are made of dental porcelain, but they can also be made of composite. Porcelain veneers are more expensive than composite veneers, but they can last a long time.

What Are Veneers Used For?

Veneers are used to correct all sorts of dental faults. If you have teeth that are cracked or broken, veneers can be placed over the cracked teeth, making them flawless again. Veneers can also help you hide teeth that have been discolored. Teeth can become discolored for a variety of reasons. Sometimes smoking can cause teeth to permanently yellow.

Drinking lots of coffee or tea can also lead to teeth discoloration. Teeth can also become discolored from accidents or injuries as well. For example, if a tennis ball hit you, your tooth might become discolored. People who have to take medication also may have discolored teeth. Some chemotherapy medications and antibiotics can discolor teeth as well.
You might also have discolored teeth because of periodontitis.

How Can I Get Veneers?

You will need to come in and let us evaluate yours for veneers. That’s because veneers are not the only product we offer to repair or replace teeth. If you do come in and veneers are appropriate for you, we will need to take impressions of your teeth. You will have to bite down on molds to make impressions. We might also take x-rays as well to make sure that your veneers are perfect for your teeth.

Your veneers will be made off-site. When they come in, we will first put them on your temporarily to make sure the fit and color are right. After the temporary placement, we then sand your teeth down a little to help the veneers adhere better to your teeth’s surface. We then apply cement to your teeth and fit the veneers over your teeth.

Caring for Veneers

Be sure that you ask us how to care for your veneers once they are permanently placed. If you grind your teeth at night, you will need to make sure that you use a night guard to make sure you don’t damage your veneers. Also, while veneers are strong, they are not fool proof. Be careful when you eat hard foods. For example, you may want to cut up apples and celery. You might also want to be careful with nuts and seeds as well. If you have questions about whether or not you would benefit from veneers, give Djawdan Center for Implant and Restorative Dentistry a call at (443) 569-8764.
