Dangers of Trying to Exercise Too Soon After Oral Surgery

Reconstructive surgery, dental implants, and tooth extractions will all take a toll on your body. Therefore, it is essential to rest and allow your body to regain strength. Even though exercising can help your body build strength and improve your health, rushing it after undergoing oral surgery could be problematic. This is why taking a break from such physical routines is crucial to let your body heal.

Take a Break From Exercising

It is not a secret that physical exercises are great for your health and general body condition. However, if you just had oral surgery, you should take a short break from it. This is because going back to exercising soon after oral surgery could lead to discomfort and increased bleeding. Furthermore, immediate exercising could slow the recovery process, reversing the progress.

Engaging your body in exercises right after oral surgery has also been linked with causing dry sockets. This occurs when the blood clots over the healing extraction site are dislodged, exposing the underlying tissues to bacteria and food particles. This could easily lead to an infection.

Therefore, you should take things easy, especially during the first 24 hours. If you had a more intensive surgery, you should wait longer before exercising. Resting is very important after an oral surgery. It allows your body to heal properly and repair the affected tissues. You should only start engaging in light exercises after at least two or three days. You can begin by participating in yoga or lifting light weights. However, you should stop immediately if you notice any pain while doing these physical exercises.
