How Painful Is Getting A Tooth Implant?

Posted on 7/24/2023 by Kian Djawdan DMD
How Painful Is Getting A Tooth Implant?Suffering from pain affects you physically or emotionally. If you have had experiences like toothache, then you know that pain in any part of your mouth is not a joke. Implants in the human body are gotten through surgery, which involves opening up the human body to access internal parts. As a normal human being you will expect pain in such a process.

Getting a Dental Implant

A medical checkup is made to confirm the status of the bone underneath the gum first. When you have your teeth extracted, the bone underneath the extraction site will start to deteriorate due to a lack of pressure that is usually exerted by a tooth. The chewing action induces the pressure needed to stimulate bone growth. If you have stayed for long since you lost your tooth or teeth, chances that your bone will need augmentation to help support the implant are high.

After the dentist confirms that you qualify for dental implants, the process may begin. An aesthetic or sedation is administered to numb that particular area and the body to make you feel no pain.

A clearance is then made on the bone for the implant to fit in. After it is fitted, a temporary cap is placed on it for protection until it heals. This will be followed by placing the crown to complete the process. At this point, you should realize that the process of having them is painless simply because the anesthesia was in action.

Pain After Getting Dental Implants

The effect of anesthesia is only meant to last during the surgery. You may experience some mild aches and discomfort in the first few days. A dentist will prescribe the right painkillers and give you the right instructions on how to manage the pain. Consult our oral surgeon to learn more about tooth implants and what to do to eliminate discomfort after the surgery.
