Cosmetic Dental Procedures

Serving Annapolis, and Surrounding Areas in Maryland

There are many cosmetic dental procedures from which to choose for improving your smile. The help of an experienced cosmetic dentist is invaluable to guide you through the choices and help you understand which ones would be best for your individual case. You especially want to make sure your cosmetic dentist pays attention to your full smile, as opposed to doing a little here and a little there, thus potentially creating more problems.

Cosmetic Dental Procedures

Depending on what specific problems you need corrected, any of the following may be right for you:

  • Crowns – Porcelain covers that fit over damaged existing teeth  or over dental implant posts. Besides sometimes filling spaces between teeth, they address problems such as teeth that are:
    • Badly shaped
    • Broken
    • Chipped
    • Decayed
    • Weakened by large metal fillings
  • Dental implants – Anchors permanently placed in the jawbone with posts attached to hold porcelain crowns and replace missing teeth.
  • Gum reshaping – Contouring the soft tissue of the gums through laser dentistry to help fix a “gummy” smile or other gum-related issues.
  • Porcelain veneers – Thin porcelain facings which are custom created and adhere to the surfaces of teeth. They correct problems such as:
    • Chips
    • Discoloration
    • Gaps
    • Crooked teeth
    • Zoom! teeth whitening – Teeth lightening procedure using the most advanced dental whitening technology.

Cosmetic Dental Treatment Methods

Treatment methods a cosmetic dentist may use:

  • Laser dentistry – More comfortable and efficient than conventional treatment methods for problems such as:
    • Eliminating decay
    • Endodontic (root canal) treatments
    • Preparing a cavity
    • Reshaping a "gummy" smile
    • Soft-tissue surgery treatments
  • Neuromuscular dentistry –Process of diagnosing and treating a misaligned bite, and thus alleviating painful symptoms.
  • Sedation dentistry – Helps patients relax during treatment and dentist to do more procedures at one time. There are three types of sedation which may be offered:
  • IV Sedation, also known as Deep Conscious Sedation. It is rarely used in dental offices because of the requirements that the IV sedation administrator have extra training and certification from the State Board of Dentistry. Dr. Djawdan is the only general dentist in Annapolis, Maryland, with the required licensing and training to perform IV sedation.
  • Enteral Conscious Sedation, better known as "Orally Administered Sedation". The term "sedation dentistry," usually refers to this type.
  • Inhalation Conscious Sedation, also called Nitrous Oxide/Oxygen Sedation. You may know it better as "laughing gas.” This type of sedation is the most commonly used.

Remember that you should choose procedures that will treat your full smile, not just an issue here or there which could create even more problems.

If you are unhappy with your smile, please contact the Center for Advanced Dentistry in Maryland to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Djawdan.
