Problem: Male patient age 59 presented for consultation wanting to restore his mouth to health so that he could smile and chew with confidence again.  He had old crowns and bridge work that was failing, which resulted in missing teeth.  Due to his business travel schedule, it was important that his treatment be completed in just a few visits.

Solution:  We presented the patient with two treatment options.  One was to replace the missing teeth with dental implants and the other was to use all porcelain crown and bridge with a zirconium substructure.  We started with a neuromuscular work up to design our blueprint.   After considering all treatment options, the patient decided that the crown and bridge option would work best for him and his busy schedule.  Once we had our neuromuscular wax up and templates, we removed the old crowns and placed new tooth colored build ups and fabricated his neuromuscular provisionals (temporaries).  The patient returned in three weeks and we placed his new porcelain crowns and bridges.  He was thrilled with the results and how quickly we were able to restore his mouth to health.

Problem:  Female patient age 42 presented for cosmetic dentistry consultation stating that she wanted to restore her smile to what it looked like before she had chipped and stained teeth.  She even provided us a picture.

Solution:  The goal was to transform her chipped and stained teeth to her previously whiter, longer and rounded smile line.  We started with digital photography and a diagnostic wax up to ensure a natural looking smile design.  This was accomplished with 6 porcelain veneers and two porcelain crowns.

Problem:  Male patient age 58 presented for cosmetic dentistry consultation stating that he was starting a new business and his wife thought that he should explore the possibilities of cosmetic dentistry to improve his smile.  His teeth were crowded and rotated.  He also had a crown on his front tooth, which did not look natural.

Solution:  The goal was to enhance his smile.  We used digital photography and a diagnostic wax up to transform his crowded narrow smile line into a broad and straight smile line that looked natural.  This was achieved with 7 porcelain veneers and one crown.  The patient and his wife were both pleased with his new smile.

Problem:  Male patient age 50 presented for consultation stating he would like to improve his smile.  He shared with us that he had several teeth that were worn, broken and missing fillings that resulted in him losing a few teeth over the past few years due to his busy travel schedule and dental fear.  He wanted to restore the other teeth that were worn and broken before he lost those too.  He wanted treatment with IV sedation.

Solution:  The goal was to restore what was broken and worn with cosmetic and sedation dentistry.  Time was also very important to the patient.  He wanted the treatment completed in as few visits as possible.  We began by creating our blue print for success with neuromuscular dentistry so that his new smile would look good and feel good.  We were able to give him a believable new smile in two long visits while he slept with IV sedation.

Whitening/Temporaries

Patient wanted a whiter smile. She used crest white strips at home. She was not aware that the four crowns on her front teeth would not whiten like her natural teeth. Patient had consulted with her general dentist regarding replacing her four crowns to match her whiter smile. She asked if he could use her existing crowns as the temporaries. He said no, but did not ask her why that would be important to her. When she called our office and asked the same questions, I asked her why that would be important to her. She said that she remembers how awful her temporaries looked and would prefer her existing crowns over awful temporaries again. I assured her that Dr. Djawdan was an excellent cosmetic dentist and that she would love the cosmetic temporaries made by Dr. Djawdan. She was thrilled with her cosmetic temporaries and then more thrilled with her new whiter smile.

Onlays, Inlays, and Crowns

26-year-old male computer engineer presented for consultation.  His chief concern was cavities and excessive wear of his teeth. He shared with me that he did not have fluorinated water as a child and as an adult that he drinks a lot of soda and smokes tobacco.  The clinical evaluation revealed too many cavities for someone of his age.  Also, noted excessive wear on most teeth resulting in loss of anterior guidance.

The goal was to restore his teeth to proper health and function.  This was achieved by restoring decayed teeth with 8 porcelain inlays, 3 porcelain onlays, and one root canal, build up and porcelain crown.  We opened his bite with an orthodontic appliance to allow teeth to erupt to achieve a proper tooth and jaw alignment.  Because of his poor bite and jaw misalignment, he had worn down his canines, which are necessary for proper function.  We recommended restoring his worn teeth with porcelain veneers.  When considering porcelain veneers in cosmetic dentistry, we evaluate the architect of the smile; the relationship between the gums, teeth and facial features.  To achieve a more esthetic result, we wanted to address the diastemas (gaps) and the proportion between his gums and teeth.  This was achieved with laser gum contouring and 6 porcelain veneers on the upper arch and 8 porcelain veneers on the lower arch. In the first set of veneers we closed the gap between his front teeth completely.  After a few weeks of living with his new smile he decided that he missed the space.  He asked if we could open the space silently.  We firmly believe in doing whatever it takes to make our guests happy with his/her smile, so we redid his upper veneers and opened the space slightly.  He was thrilled with his results.
